The topic of Connected Open Greens is the implementation of contemporary art pieces by usage of gardening situations, especially looking into microsociological and ecological systems related to time as starting points for the development of new artistic practices.

Community gardens provide access to fresh produce and plants as well as access to satisfying labor, neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment. They are publicly functioning in terms of ownership, access, and management, as well as typically owned in trust by local governments or nonprofits. (Wikipedia) This approach should be used to introduce contemporary time-based art into local communities and environments that usually are not part of the artistic focus. Urban gardening thereby becomes a method to find alternative communication stragegies for contemporary art. At the same time, technological and organisational knowledge from artists enters into the world of community-based local work.
Inspirations for these strategies are collected from other art project and the TIK-partners, escpecially from OKNO with their experiences with their open green experiments.

During the meeting in August, we came up with the following plans
- Reinfrid will develop local seeds balls
- Jogi came up with the idea to translate the method of composting into the video-materil gathered in pad.ma, he will need and get support from IOhannes and Christian, and other programmers
- Maureen suggested to work with fallen fruits, one plan is to make a map, and integrate it in openstreetmaps for graz; we will do public fruit jams, starting 2010 and going on in 2011; a possibility could be to use the preparing times and time frames for audio works, based on the sounds of the preparations, writing scores etc
- research will be put into sensort technics and plants now, to see, what possibilites of observation and interpretation can be developed
- Kunstgarten can be a space for a windmill
- we are in communication with diverse city departments forusage of green space in the city and city development
- during the exhibition Take Your Time, Maureen will organize tree walks trough city parks
- based on a text of a US-american author, we will follow a chinese calender that is based on a 5days rhythm, and contains obvervations of time (including weather, plants, ...), starting with the beginning of 2011

The next steps will consist of a scheduling of these diverse ideas, see how the windwill protocols can be combined with other software such as pd, how the access to diverse green parts of the city can be integrated in the experiments of data colelction for art production and where possible (also temporary) spaces for these art works could be.
Contacts with the community radio Radio Helsinki are made, they are interested in joining the broadcasting. Other/further possibilities have to be dicussed.
Two additional projects overlap in a certain sense: one is done by Elli Scambor and Fränk Zimmer - a research on local social networks, looking into structures of meetings and time spent on them, with a special consideration on time. The other one is a university project, run by Nicole Pruckermayr. She will work with a group of students of architecture on the topic of "art and energie". The prototypes developed will be shown at ESC. If the students develop time-relevant ideas and objects, the can become part of "Take Your Time" exhibition in ESC.
