Time Inventors' Kabinet TIK TIME BENDING CLOCK TIME BENDING CLOCK TIME BENDING CLOCK (TBC) ist ein Projekt, das sich mit alternativen Theorien, Konzepten, Methoden und Praktiken der Zeitmessung und der Erfahrung von Zeit beschäftigt. Begonnen als Forschungsprojekt an der Schnittstelle von Kunst-, Kultur- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte sowie der zeitgenössischen Kunst, Wissenschaft und Populärkultur, ist inzwischen auch die Arbeit an der Konstruktion und Installation aufgenommen worden. Die TIME BENDING CLOCK funktioniert auf der Basis eines offenen, verteilten Netzwerks teils temporärer, teils dauerhafter Mechanismen, die lokal und/oder medial verortet bzw. entsprechend zu verorten sind. Nicht alle dieser Mechanismen sind kontrollierbar oder weisen eine Regelmässigkeit vergleichbar jener eines konventionellen, mechanischen oder digitalen Uhrwerks auf. Gleichwohl geben sie jedoch Auskunft über Zeit und lassen sich – Kenntnisse über ihre Funktionsweise vorausgesetzt – lesen. TIME BENDING CLOCK TIME BENDING CLOCK (TBC) is a project dedicated to the research on theories and practices of alternate concepts, methods and techniques of clocking time. Originally set up as a theoretical research project with anchors/roots in art history, cultural history and the history of science, and contemporary intersections between art(s), science and popular culture, it has meanwhile layered a more practice oriented offspring as well with the construction and installation of a related mechanism. This TIME BENDING CLOCK is conceived as an open, distributed apparatus/system and network based on temporary as well as permanent mechanisms. The TBC nodes are located in physical space as well as within in different media. Not all TBC Mechanisms are controllable or regular functions like those of a conventional mechanical or digital clock. Nevertheless they are clocking time and can be read, provided the afforded knowledge about their structure and their function. Forscht und lehrt seit 1996 an Universitäten und Kunsthochschulen. Von 1995 bis 1999 Co-Kuratorin beim Kasseler Dokumentarfilm und Videofest, wo sie seit 1999 die jährliche interfiction Tagung für Kunst, Medien und Netzkulturen in Kassel leitet. Seit 1997 Kunstradio mit eigenen Sendeformaten. In ihrer Forschung beschäftigt sie sich u. a. mit Transfers zwischen materialen und medialen Kulturen; Medien der Imagination; Technologien der Transformation; DIY-Kulturen; Spiel, Spielen & Spielzeug. Zahlreiche Publikationen (print & online) zu Kunst und Medien in ihren gegenwärtigen, vergangenen und zukünftigen Formationen. www.kuniver.se – www.under-construction.cc – www.visuelle-kultur.info – www.gunst.info Verena Kuni is scholar in the field of history and theory of art and media cultures and professor for Visual Culture at Goethe University, Frankfurt Main. Since 1996 she is lecturing, researching and teaching at universities and art academies in Europe and beyond. From 1995 to 1999, she co-curated the video section of Kasseler Dokumentarfilm and Video Festival, where since 1999 she is director of the yearly interfiction summit for art, media, and network cultures. Her research is dedicated a. o. to transfers between material and media cultures; media of imagination and technologies of transformation; alternate realities; urban biotopes; DIY and prosumer cultures; games, play and toys as tools. She has published widely (print & online) on contemporary arts & media, their histories and futures.
